Movie Review: Spy Game

CIA operative Nathan Muir (Redford) is on the brink of retirement when he finds out that his protege Tom Bishop (Pitt) has been arrested in China for espionage. No stranger to the machinations of the CIA's top echelon, Muir hones all his skills and irreverent manner in order to find a way to free Bishop. As he embarks on his mission to free Bishop, Muir recalls how he recruited and trained the young rookie, at that time a sergeant in Vietnam, their turbulent times together as operatives and the woman who threatened their friendship.

This is one of my first film experiences with Robert Redford. A quick glance at his filmography on IMDB shows me most of his films were in the 60's and 70's, and since I rarely watch old movies, the fact I hadnt seen him until now shouldn't be a shock. One thing that was always in the back of my head though was "God this guy looks and awful lot like Dick Vermeil, when is he going to burst into tears?"

That said, he played a good role and the movie was pretty sweet. The plot was primarily driven via the use of flashbacks with snippets of present day accounts woven in to tie everything together.

Like its title suggests, its a movie about espionage, the CIA and all that cloak and dagger stuff. I happen to like spy-type movies (The Bourne series, James Bond, etc etc) and this film lived up to my expectations of what a spy thriller film should deliver. Didn't realize that Redford was more the main character than Pitt but the two complimented each other nicely.

Overall I would give this movie 3 cams out of 4 and would reccommend it to anyone who hasnt seen it.
