Smells Like Some One Shit In Their Cereal

Ever since I can remember, I have eaten cereal for breakfast. At least one bowl a day, no matter what time I wake up, gotta have that cereal. I also like a generous variety of brands and styles. I can do plain, sugary, fruity, healthy and unhealthy. The other morning I got to thinking, which company has the best cereal portfolio, Kellogg's or General Mills? I know there are other brands like your local grocery store brands and even bigger national brands like Post, but honestly, Post only has Fruity Pebbles and Honeycomb, which are both good, but we're talking major league stuff here.

Kellogg's*

  • Apple Jacks
  • Corn Pops
  • Fruit Loops
  • Corn Flakes
  • Frosted Flakes
  • Frosted Mini-Wheat's
  • Raisin Bran
  • Rice Krispies
  • Crispix

General Mills*

  • Lucky Charms
  • Cheerios (regular and honey nut)
  • Golden Grahams
  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch
  • Wheaties
  • Trix
  • Reese's Puffs

*For the above lists, I only included the cereals that I actually eat. I'm well aware that both companies offer more products than the ones I listed.

The Weigh In

If you look at the numbers, Kellogg's with 9 and GM with 8 you would think Kellogg's wins. Not so fast. Golden Grahams and Cinnamon Toast Crunch are probably my two all time favorites, with Honey Nut Cheerios in a close third. I do love Frosted Mini-Wheat's and Crispix too, which probably rounds out my top 5 choices. Lately I've been really digging the Reese's Puffs and Trix. Kellogg's big 3 of Apple Jacks, Corn Pops and Fruit Loops are good don't get me wrong, but they've been around forever and just don't excite me like they used to. They're like that sure thing woman you keep going back to after a break up and you need some rebound sex. We'll go ahead and say that General Mills takes the cereal crown.
